Lessons

Each pupil has an individual lesson of thirty minutes each week and I actively encourage everyone to be involved in choosing their own repertoire of pieces. Besides playing the piano every lesson includes studying music theory and the art of written notation. Childrens’ lessons are motivated by competitions and prizes awarded for dedicated work and achievement.

Pupils may take part in local concerts and festivals if they wish and most years my students stage a concert to showcase their achievements. The climax to this event is the presentation of the Award for the Young Musician of the Year and the Lavelle Cup along with other prizes.

Examinations are available through Trinity College and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music if the pupil wishes.

During July and August younger pupils study famous pieces of music. In 2018 our project was based on The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky and Pictures at an Exhibition by Moussorgsky.
