Pauline Carter

BA (Hons), A Mus LCM, CT ABRSM, MISM, Dip CS

I am largely a self-taught musician and I hope that this gives me a unique insight into the needs of my pupils and the difficulties they may have to overcome. Over the years I have been actively involved in church music as both a pianist and an organist.

My qualifications include a BA honours degree in Music and Classics and an Associateship in Music with the London College of Music. I was one of the first students to complete the Certificate in Teaching of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music and I have been a member of the Incorporated Society of Musicians (ISM) since 2008

We moved to West Oxfordshire in 1988 and since then I have been teaching the piano in Witney, at the Tiddy Hall Ascott-Under-Wychwood, Windrush Valley School and Leafield and Combe Church of England Primary schools.

One of my particular interests is teaching theory of music and music literacy. I have tutored many candidates for the Grade 5 theory requirement of the Associated Board and mentor students for school entry exams, GCSE and ‘A’ level music.

Oxfordshire County Council and the ISM have both completed safeguarding checks on my behalf and I endeavour to attend child protection and safeguarding courses as required.

I am currently chairman of the Concertante Society which promotes musical opportunities for young musicians in West Oxfordshire and in this capacity I have presented the Wychwood Trophy to the Chipping Norton Music Festival for promising primary school pianists.
